Local rules worth knowing

  • The local bylaw expressly includes compliant e-bikes and kick scooters in its low-powered-vehicle rules.
  • Crosswalk riding is allowed only when a bylaw or traffic-control device authorizes it; walking across is the safe default.
  • Public-path access does not override a closure, park rule or property-owner restriction.

Possible fines and enforcement

  • Provincial helmet and scooter-operation tickets may apply; the exact offence determines the amount.
  • Impound, towing or storage costs can be additional to a ticket.
Municipal boundary, different answer.

The City and Township of Langley are the clearest example: the Township participates in the scooter pilot, while the City does not.

Signs still win.

A summary cannot replace a closure, facility-specific speed limit, park rule or traffic-control device.

Classification comes first.

High-powered devices do not inherit e-bike or kick-scooter permissions because they look similar.
